Free Essays on Green Is The Colour
A critic has made the following observation about Fernandoââ¬â¢s Green is the Colour: Clearly, the central concern (of the novel) is how people of different races, the heirs of colonial and migrant histories, face the challenges of living side by side.â⬠Does this comment function, for you, as an adequate summation of the novelââ¬â¢s thematic concerns? In Fernandoââ¬â¢s Green is the Colour, there is no doubt that the central concern is about how people of different races face the challenges of living side by side. However, besides this, readers should also look beyond this central concern to unearth Fernandoââ¬â¢s other concerns regarding the countryââ¬â¢s future from various aspects. Although this novel was written in the setting of post 13 May 1969, its thematic concerns are also applicable to the Malaysian society of today. As long as Malaysia has not achieved true success in the formation of a common ââ¬Å"Bangsa Malaysiaâ⬠identity, the issues grappled by Fernando in this story will remain relevant to the Malaysians. In this novel, Fernando brings out the problems that plague the three main races at that period of time. To Fernando, it is important to address the problems that all races are facing if we want to achieve a Malaysia that is united from every aspect. It is also Fernandoââ¬â¢s intention to highlight these issues as he wants his readers of different races to understand the situation and also the plight of their fellow Malaysians who are of different backgrounds. Even for Malaysians of today, it would be good to understand the history of each otherââ¬â¢s culture, so that better understanding among each other could be forged to open the way up for Fernandoââ¬â¢s dialogic vision for the nation, which according to Mohammad A. Quayum in ââ¬Å"Shaping a New Destiny with Dialogic Visionâ⬠, ââ¬Å"accommodates widely different outlooks for the sake of promoting fellowship and peaceâ⬠(169). Theatre Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Theatre - Research Paper Example Gabrielle as Laurey played the role with good and balanced qualities of naivety and intelligence. Shuler Hensley depicted Jud Fryââ¬â¢s character at its best. He started out as a fairly sorry and miserable person but slowly revealed his true character, one who is full of rage. In terms of their vocal capabilities, the three actors were excellent. Gabrielleââ¬â¢s voice was lovely and has beautiful voice and range. Hugh Jackmanââ¬â¢s powerful voice and stage presence kept everyoneââ¬â¢s attention to the play. Henleyââ¬â¢s portrayal of Jud with his passionate voice allowed the audience to like him as well as despise him. The supporting casts were not also outdone in the play. Maureen Lipman stood out as the classic established matriarch who portrayed Aunt Eller. She depicted cleverness, tenderness and hardness due to what she went through in her life. Jimmy Johnston and Vicki Simon were good but quite conservative in their versions as Will Parker and Ado Annie. Pollycarpouââ¬â¢s portrayal of Ali Hakim was a bit of a setback since he sounded more of a New Yorker rather than a Middle Easterner. 2. Musical Theatre: a. This play is, obviously, a musical. In class we discussed how musical theatre lives somewhere outside of realism, but also outside of anti-realism. What is realistic in this play? What isnt? Oklahoma showcased the love stories of Curly McLain and Laurey Williams and Will Parker and Ado Annie which took place in Oklahoma. The story of the musical depicted the role of money, power and fear in marriage, and true love in real life. In earlier times, marriages can be bought with money and power. Wealthy people can have to power to choose and buy the women they want to marry. Jud Fry used his money and power to win the love of the one he was obsessed with, Laurey. In the case of Will Parker, he cannot marry his fiancà ©e Ado Annie if he cannot pay for $50 to Andrew Carnes, Adoââ¬â¢s father. Power and fear also have important roles in marriages before. Anti-kickback Laws and Violations Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words
Anti-kickback Laws and Violations - Term Paper Example Anti-kickback laws are laws that are used to protect patients from frauds by the physicians. The patient who is subjected to such abuse usually has a financial alliance with the physician. The financial alliance can either be ownership of property or remuneration of certain goods. Physicians tend to take advantage of the beneficiaries whom they are supposed to offer medical services to decompensate their financial losses. They do this by asking for extra funds or providing poor services to the patients. Statutory laws were made governing the conducts of physicians and the punishment given thereafter (Schachter 2008). Physicians violate the anti-kickback laws due to poor salaries and denial of some insurance companies over the claim of the physician. Here are some of the state laws that control the referral of beneficiaries by physicians. The statute forbids state healthcare providers from deliberately imploring any compensation from the beneficiary for a service offered whose payment is to be made under the state health care program. The Federal Anti-kickback Statute is a purpose-based statute. The Federal Healthcare Program in the United States Government is a program that provides health services and acquires its funds from the government either partly or in whole. Some of the transactions are federal apart from the Federal Anti-kickback Statute (Schachter 2008). The consequences of going against the Federal Anti-Kickback Statute are very brutal which includes fines of up to $25000, imprisonment of up to five years, barring from participating in state healthcare programs and administrative public money fines of up to $50000. In order to avoid violating the stark laws, it is important to understand the definition of some of the terms used in the stark law. This includes understanding which people count as the immediate family and what a financial relationship is, investment

My Understanding of Parents-Children Relationship Essay Example for Free
My Understanding of Parents-Children Relationship Essay During the past twenty years of my life, I was always regarding my parents as extraordinary and authoritative models of my life. I adored them so much as if everything they had done was not only right but also great. As for my parents, they paid much attention to setting a good example for me since I was a little girl. The situation lasts and I have never thought of any possible changes in the relationship between my parents and me. However, after reading the passage Predictable Crises of Adulthood written by Gail Sheehy, my old understanding of parents-children relationship is replaced by a totally new one - nothing remains unchanged forever and the parents-children relationship is no exception. Actually, there are changes in my relationship although I did not detect them before reading the passage. As I mentioned above, my parents were regarded as the models of my life and this impression was established firmly from my early childhood, influencing me greatly during the past years. In my eyes, they were so preeminent that they could have everything done well. In fact, they were intent on setting an example to me by building up such kind of holy and authoritative image in my mind. However, as I was growing up, I gradually found that my parents were not the God. It was impossible for them to control everything in life and sometimes they were confronted with difficulties. In the recent years, with the broadening of my horizons, I gain my own beliefs, some of which are quite differently from that of my parents. I find that they are no long as holy and remote as they used to be. Now my parents and I am sharing a more equal relationship. On the one hand, they respect my opinions, treating me as an adult. On the other hand, I would like to consult with them whenever I am confronted with difficulties. Therefore, the relationship between my parents and me has changed. They are no long holy and authoritative, but amiable and friendly. They are more like my friends rather than parents. In the next decade when I become a mother, my relationship with parents will be likely to get into a new stage. My parents are such good models of my life that I firmly believe that they are excellent and extraordinary parents. As a result, it is quite possible for me to develop similar parenting pattern. Also, my parents will certainly offer me suggestions whenever I am confused. The role of my parents in theà relationship changes again. At this stage, they will become my model in terms of parenting. At the last stage of their life, parents may become too old to take good care of themselves. Thus, special care for them will be needed, which will wholly shift the relationship between my parents and me. There exists an interesting phenomenon: the senior tend to become more childlike when they are getting older and older, while their children, who are at the best stage in their life, become the reliance of their parents. Thus, the roles of my parents and I will exchange as the process of life. I, in return, will take care of my old parents just as they took care of me years ago. The relationship will go to the opposite side of the one in the earlier stage of life. Except for the love between parents and children, nothing remains unchanged forever. The relationship between parents and children changes as the stage of life processes. These changes are inevitable, just as the life cycle goes on. We should accept the changes positively and face them bravely. Only by adopting the right relationship at the right stage can one lives a better life with the relationship between parents and children.

Rainbow Boys Essay -- essays research papers fc
The question of sexual identity is asked to many professional athletes when they are first diagnosed with HIV or tested positive for the AIDS virus. Magic Johnson is a five time championship winner with the Los Angeles Lakers, awarded MVP three times, and played amongst the first nine Olympic All-Star teams (Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame). Despite these great achievements in his life, his contact with the HIV virus caused him to face much discrimination. Although Johnsonââ¬â¢s source of the virus has been unknown, many people have ââ¬Å"misconceptions of AIDS as an exclusively gay diseaseâ⬠and thought that Magic was homosexual because of his positive test (Stewart). During an interview with Arsenio Hall, immediately after admitting his infection, Magic was asked about his sexuality. In response to this question Magic responded that he was ââ¬Å"far from being homosexualâ⬠(Stewart). Magic Johnsonââ¬â¢s acknowledgment to contacting the virus lead many a ctivist to feel that his ââ¬Å"disavowal of homosexual activity put a barrier between gay people with AIDS and everyone else, reinforcing the stereotype that gays ââ¬Ëbrought it on themselvesââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (Kantrowitz). This idea that gays brought it on to themselves reinforces the discrimination that HIV positive and AIDS people face throughout their lives. The misconception that leads people to discriminate against HIV positive individuals assumes that all people who are infected are homosexual and causes one to lose his or her identity. Due to his pop...

Kwame Nkrumah Strategies and ideologies towards Essay
Nkwame Nkrumah had a vision for Africa, he wanted to have a united continent where all the corners of this region can work together and talk in one voice. He was one of the great proponents of Panafricanism where he passionately advocated for such a union as the only solution to the many social, economic and political problems that this continent was facing. In essence he can be said to have provided a vision for the achievement of a united continental government of Africa. His passion was to see Africa united, he strongly believed that no single African country can achieve progress in most of the aspects on its own, unity among nation was such an important move as could harness the development in this continent which Nkrumah believed had a great potential. (Wallerstein, I. 1967) Nkrumah advocated for a collective African agency which can be largely be attributed for the initiation of the African groups within the United Nations. In 1960s Nkrumah organized the African states to vote as a block and nominated one of the African states for the United Nations membership. Nkrumah was advocating for a single African vote instead of micro nations. His reasoning was that a powerfully consolidated continent would be in a very good position to bargain rather than a fragmented continent which can not speak in one voice. He was of the opinion that the full realization of African nationalism would not be achieved until a single political unit was formed. (Wallerstein, I. 1967) Nkrumah was very instrumental in the formation of an African union. He together with other peer leaders in the African continent was the founding fathers of the Organization of African Union. He championed for unity in the continent so that they are net left behind while the other continents move forward. He used his oratory and negotiations skills to influence other African leaders to rally behind him and work together towards realization of this dream. His efforts bore fruit as the organization which was to be used as a vehicle to a united Africa was up and running. Whether this dream lives on to this time is not important the fact remains that this great African leader was dedicated towards achievement of African unity. Reference Wallerstein, I. (1967) Africa: The politics of unity. New York: Vintage Books.
